The Environmental Protection Agency issued a final waste license for the Dublin Waste to Energy Project in December 2008. This project is a municipal waste incinerator being developed jointly by Dublin City Council and an consortium consisting of Covanta Energy Corporation of the US, and DONG Energy Generation of Denmark. The project will thermally treat 600,000 tonnes of waste per annum and generate heat and electricity sufficient to supply the needs of 50,000 homes.
